So, it is now college football season. Which overlaps the last few weeks of the baseball season. This means that I now have two teams to check up on. Happily, today was a Splendid Sports Day!! The Boston Red Sox defeated the Chicago White Sox (fun little Sox rivalry, isn't it?) by a score of 8-2. And then, our wonderful Utes defeated Michigan 25-23. This was an especially good victory to savor, since Colby and I were pretty convinced that Utah really couldn't beat Michigan (O thou of little faith...we know). Yahoo!! It is a great day when both of our beloved Red teams win!! So a good game day today...on to the next!!!

The winding down of summer...
So it is nearly the end of August. I can't believe the summer, or the whole year for that matter, has flown by! My sweet Savannah has started second grade. She just keeps getting smarter and smarter. Her reading tests continue to place her at well-above grade level, and she just keeps improving. She is still excelling at her piano lessons. Fortunately, she seems to have inherited her father's musical talents. She can hear a piece of music, and then pick it out on the piano by ear. She also watches Colby play, then she copies the song and plays it herself. She amazes us. The only thing is, she is so skilled at HEARING and then picking the song out, that she does not see much need to try and master reading the notes. We aren't sure if we should be proud of her abilities, or scold her for not practicing reading the music! She also starts a new season of soccer in a couple weeks.
My sweet Charlotte- or Princess Genevieve, as she prefers to be called- begins her first year of preschool next week. She is thrilled to be "going to school like Savannah." She is so smart, and she is an amazing learner. We are so excited to see her blossom this year in school. Charlotte also started her dance lessons last week. She is completely ecstatic about that. She wants to wear her dance leotards and ballet shoes every day, no matter where we are going. She is quite excited to learn to dance just like Princess Genevieve (from the 12 Dancing Princesses, in case you were wondering!). I can't quite believe that my little tiny Charlotte is now 3-and-a-half. Amazing.
My little rough-and-tumble Barrett is ever exciting and energetic. He keeps me busy. Plus, I am learning all sorts of new skills from him. For instance, he is teaching me fencing. Well, it is more like swords, or anything that even remotely resembles a sword, being thrust at me and I better defend myself by any means possible. So, I have learned to swordfight. Thanks, Bear!! I have also learned the fine craft of the demolition derby, or as he calls it, Crashing Cars. This can be done in a variety of ways. Some of his favorites include building a tower of blocks and crashing into it; putting random cars in a row and then crashing into them; and his most favorite: crashing the cars into whatever his sisters are playing with at the moment. I just had no idea that crashing cars was so much fun!! He is also so excited to see Charlotte go to school, that way he will have his Mommy all to himself for a few hours a week. The poor little guy is slightly a Mama's boy. Well, maybe a whole lot of a Mama's boy. But, I must admit, I just love him to pieces!
So, with summer coming to it's last days, and fall coming upon us, I am so excited to see the fun things my little monkeys will get to do and learn. Bring on the cooler weather and the school stuff!!

Feeding the ducks
My parents took the kids to Tracy Aviary to feed the ducks and geese. Charlotte and Barrett were kind of scared of the geese, and decided that feeding them from an elevated position was the better way to go. Evidently, some of the geese are so greedy and overfed, that they will grab the bread right from your hands. Barrett didn't like that at all.

See...I told you
Message from Colby...
Didn't I tell everyone that once Dani figured out how to place pictures on the blog it would prove that she is one Hot Momma? I hate to say "I told you so," but I TOLD YOU SO!

Three Little Monkeys...Barrett
And now for the boy...
Barrett Colby was born on May 30, 2006, coming on his own the day before I was scheduled to be induced...thanks, Bear!!! Barrett is such a fun little boy. Actually, I was quite terrified of having a boy. I never had brothers, and the thought of raising a boy scared me to tears. I'll tell you though, my little Bear-Bear is my little BUDDY! The thing is, he knows it too. He is kind of a spoiled little man, despite my sincerest intentions of NOT having a "youngest child-only boy" spoiled Mama's boy. Sigh. He's just too cute. When he was a baby, he loved being wrapped in blankets. And I am not talking just loosely wrapped, but tightly wrapped. Burrito-wrapped. Shrink-wrapped. He loved his blankie wrapped around him so tight you'd think he was going to suffocate. Totally the opposite of Charlotte, who hated having blankets on her at all, let alone wrapped in them. He also was a stubborn little man who managed to get himself out of the burrito-wraps and lay flat in his back. So much so, that he ended up needing an orthotic helmet to correct his head shape- which had turned almost completely flat in the back. No matter what we did, he managed to find a way to turn himself flat on his back, just the way he wanted it. It should be no surprise at all that he is really quite a daredevil and a "do it my way" kind of a guy. Yikes. He also loves baseball. Or in his case, Boston. Now, we all know that Colby is a major Boston Red Sox fan. Even Barrett's bedroom has Boston Red Sox bedding and decor. But it is funny to hear Barrett say he is going to play Boston. It is not baseball to Barrett, it is Boston. We watch Boston, we play Boston, it is not baseball. Boston.
Maybe I should have let Colby name him Boston. :o)
He also loves He-Man (anyone remember He-Man cartoons?). He got the He-Man cartoons on DVD for his birthday and he is known as He-Man quite often. Charlotte is a Princess, Barrett is He-Man, Master of the Universe. He even carries around a sword and says "By the power of Greyskull, I have the power!" He raises the sword just like the cartoons and everything. Anyway, he is such a good boy, despite being so...I don't know, boy-ish...but he makes us laugh and he is so much fun.

Three Little Monkeys...Charlotte
So, all about Charlotte....
Our little Charlotte Renee was born on February 6, 2005, just one day shy of her due date and our wedding anniversary. Charlotte is a very precocious and very smart 3 year old who happens to be a Princess. And not just any princess, but a whole bunch of them. It just depends on the day. For the record, she is Princess Genevieve at the moment. Charlotte is such a joy and a light in our lives. Never a dull moment with Char. Charlotte also adores shoes, jewelry, crowns, twirly dresses, and anything else that can even remotely resemble Princess-like attire. In fact, one of the most effective methods of discipline for Charlotte is to tell her that she can't wear a dress/skirt unless she does....whatever it is. Or to tell her that she can't be a Princess unless she does...whatever. It is kind of funny, but making her wear shorts or pants is the most terrible punishment to Charlotte. Charlotte also loves to read. The same exact stories over and over and over and over and over again. Why, who knew that Snow White and Cinderella hold the same fascination even after you have read them at least 200 times? Evidently Charlotte knows! :) She has read them (or more accurately, had them read TO her) so many times that she picks up the books and pretty much recites them word-for-word, and thinks that she is so big reading like Savannah. So cute.
Speaking of cute, about a month ago, I told Charlotte she was so beautiful, and she said, "No, I'm so cute." So I said, "Oh, you're cute, huh?" And Charlotte thought about it for a minute, then told me "No, I'm cute-iful."
Flippin' adorable. So that is my Charlotte, the Cute-iful Princess....

Three Little Monkeys...Savannah
So, seeing as I have not yet figured out how to load pictures, I have decided that I will just post a little bit about the kids. You'll just have to wait for pictures of them. Maybe for quite some time, actually. Maybe you shouldn't get your hopes up....anyway, back to the kids.
Savannah Marie is our oldest. She was born on March 30, 2001, and is therefore, SEVEN! I cannot believe that sometimes. Where has the time gone? I look at her baby pictures, and it seems like yesterday, not seven years ago. Amazing. Savannah just started her second grade year [ :( blasted year-round school] and she is excited about that. No more "I'm bored" moments being home with Mom during the day. She is such a smartie, it amazes us. She can read well above her grade level, she loves math and science, and has recently decided that jump-rope should be a class subject. She would easily get an A+ for jump-rope! Savannah is such a mother hen to her younger siblings. Sometimes that is incredibly sweet and helpful; sometimes it is incredibly annoying and not-so-helpful. Honestly, how many times does poor Barrett need to hear "put it down, Bear, you're going to hurt yourself..."? Mostly she is such a sweetheart and a good helper, though. Savannah also loves animals. In fact, for her birthday this year she decided she wanted some fish. We have gone through 5 little fish since March 30. The last fish, named Pongo, made his way back to the grand fishbowl in the sky on Friday, joining his friends Molly, Mickey Mouse, Silver, and Creamsicle. Savannah has since decided that fish aren't very good pets, as they tend to die quite soon and suddenly. So, no more fishies. She'll stick with cats. Which is good, since Mommy wasn't an enormous fan of the fish. Bring on the cats that I can snuggle and play with!! Here kitty kitty kitty!!
So, that is Savannah...in a nutshell...
